
As the founding principal of ARUP DATTA ARCHITECT LTD (ADAL) has been involved in designing major Architectural and Master Planning projects in Canada and abroad for over 40 years. Mr. Datta has led design teams for large mixed-use complexes, educational, cultural and institutional projects in Canada, USA, Europe, Africa, Middle East and S.E. Asia.
His designed projects are well known nationally and internationally. They are sympathetic towards social, cultural economic and environmental aspects of a project. He has managed projects most effectively of all sizes, all across Canada as well as in other countries. Combining international caliber design of capability and a strong management background, he delivers the best end product to all clients, with astute leadership.

Won ‘The Americas Property Awards’ 2014 – 2015 in Retail Architecture Category, Canada and America’s Best from the International Property Awards U.K & listed in Top 5 - In the World – Dubai, 2014 – 2015 for the South Pointe Lexus, Edmonton, Alberta.

His designs/proposals have won or been at the final rounds in many major national and international competitions. Mr. Datta is hands on and has been involved in designing over US $3.0 Billion dollars of construction value.

He was the Key Note Speaker at the Canadian Infrastructure Mission to Vizag & Hyderabad, India 2012.

For MSA Inc. Mr. Datta was in charge of MacEwan Student Centre, University of Calgary, ($ 17.2 Million) – one of the best Student Centres in Canada. It was a Canada wide competition winner among 47 entries.

Mr. Datta spearheaded the export of Canadian Architectural and Planning expertise to foreign countries arranged through Ministry of External Affairs, Canada to major clients in Hong Kong, Singapore, Malaysia, Saudi Arabia, Thailand, India, England and USA.

He was the Sr. Design Project Architect/Consultant of Mall of America – the largest Shopping Mall in the USA. (From Concept/Schematic Design up to Development Permit Stage.) Rated #1 in the list of 10 – Best Malls in the world.

He was also involved in the design of the West Edmonton Mall – Phase III & IV one of the largest Shopping Malls in the world. Rated #2 in the list of 10 – Best Malls in the world.

Mr. Datta was among the twenty-two top architects chosen internationally by Arriyadh Development Agency, Riyadh, Saudi Arabia to design the Law Courts Project for Riyadh, out of eighty seven entries.

He designed the Nigerian Industrial Development Bank Headquarters project ($ 135 Million US) – One of the largest projects in Nigeria.

He was the Senior Design & Project Architect in designing two of Calgary’s outstanding Class “A” Office tower complexes which are well known in Canada i.e.: The Western Canadian Place ($86 million), The Banker’s Hall Complex ($250 million) and a 4-tower High-rise office project the Olympic Centre ($250 million).

Mr. Datta was chosen by a Malaysian developer to Master Plan a major mixed-use complex for 170 acres of land to develop 8.5 Million sq.ft. and develop a conceptual design for a 400 room $34 million luxury hotel in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

He was one of the two Senior Design Architects for the Environmental Centre Project, Nice, France – a 3.5 Million sq.ft. development approx. $500 Million construction value.
